What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is not sleep, it is a trance-like state that you may be surprised to learn we experience several times a day.

Perhaps you have driven along a familiar road and not remembered parts of the journey, or maybe you have been out for a jog and the time has just disappeared?

Or perhaps you have been engrossed in a book or a movie and haven’t noticed when someone has called your name – if so you were in a trance-like state at the time.

During hypnosis you will be guided into a similar state so that beneficial suggestions can be directed towards your subconscious mind. In hypnosis you will feel relaxed and calm and aware of everything around you. It is an extremely pleasant and enjoyable state which is very similar to daydreaming.

It is often pointless attempting to make the change in our conscious mind, when the process resides in our subconscious.

Hypnosis allows us to make beneficial changes in the very depths of that subconscious – and as such it can be a very powerful.

By entering the state of hypnosis we can safely bypass the conscious part of the mind and ‘reprogram’ the subconscious so that it takes on board new, better ideas.

If you find that you are repeatedly doing something you do not want to do, or repeatedly not doing something that you need/want to do, then Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy enables us to find a way to override that subconscious idea or re-evaluate its validity, or use suggestion to render it inactive.

A Hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything you do not want to do, or that is against your moral code. You cannot get stuck in hypnosis and you can leave the state whenever you wish. You are in complete control at all times. You will be safe to drive home after your session.
